Annie Jones Dowtin , daughter of the late William H. Jones and Eunice B. Jones, was born on December 25, 1922, in Halifax County, North Carolina, and departed this earthly life on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
She was a faithful member at Simmons Grove Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, where she served as an usher and later moved her membership to Shearin’s Chapel Baptist Church where she served as a mother. Her formal education was received in the public schools of Halifax County, North Carolina.
Annie was united in Holy Matrimony to Merle Dowtin Sr. on January 9, 1942. Of this union, there were five children, two preceding her in death, Lloyd N. Dowtin and Leon Dowtin, Sr. Also preceding her were two brothers William H. Jones, Jr. and Willie F. Jones.
Ms. Annie was known by many and was a blessing to everyone she met. She always greeted everyone with a smile and was always concerned about others. Her hobbies included sewing and baking. She enjoyed spending quality time with her great grandchildren.
Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of her love and wisdom is her son Merle H. Dowtin, Jr.(Belvia) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two daughters, Sandra Fleming (Edward) of Roanoke Rapids , NC and Doris Dowtin of Greensboro, NC.;Two daughters-in-law, Linda Dowtin and Erenestine Dowtin of Roanoke Rapids, NC.nine grandchildren, Vernetta(Rastus) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Shawn Sr.(Jimmetra) of Greensboro, NC, Ayanda(Anthony) of Greenville, NC, Leon Jr. and Jamie of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Kymerle of Greensboro, NC Kia(Ronald) of Raleigh, NC and Erika and Kiva of Greensboro, NC and 18 great-grandchildren.
Additional survivors include sisters Laura Putney and Dora Garner of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Ethel(Noah) Williams of Trenton, NJ.;brothers, Louis Jones(Lorine) and Marvin Jones of Trenton, NJ; sisters-in-law, Senora Brown of Newark, NJ, Mildred and Lillian Dowtin of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Lucille Jones of Willingboro, NJ.
One special niece Sharon(Faye) Little of High Point, NC. and Laura Daniels of Washington, DC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral serrvice will be 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Shearin's Chapel Baptist Church. Viewing will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
