Mrs. Annie L. Summers Raleigh transitioned from this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Authora Care of Burlington, NC.

Annie, known as "Laura," was the last surviving child of the late Alonzo Summers and Ardell Bynum Summers. She was born in Greensboro, North Carolina (Guilford County) on April 17, 1923. Her life was a reflection of her family's legacy, marked by the traditions and values instilled in her from a young age.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandchild, Stephen; her brother, Alonzo Summer; and her sisters, Julia Mae Sims and Elizabeth Lash.

She attended James B. Dudley High School in 1941. In the early 1940s, she embraced a fulfilling career as a nurse at the North Carolina Orphanage Hospital, where she enjoyed her nurturing role. In 1945, she married the late Alfred Eugene Raleigh and had two daughters, Eugenia Louise Wheeler and Minerva Smith (wife of Clinton Smith Sr.).

Her professional journey led her to Sedalia School, where she spent ten years. Following that, she worked at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), contributing her talent there for another ten years. After a rewarding career dedicated to education and care, she retired in 1985, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and commitment.

After moving to Whitsett, NC, she became a member of Clapp’s Chapel A.M.E. Church and wore many hats. She was a member of the Senior Choir, Usher Board, Stewardess, Missionary, Pastor’s Aid, Sunday School teacher, and Hospitality Committee. Later, as the church grew, she was honored with a dedication service in the Fellowship Hall, recognizing her many years of dedicated service to the Lord. She received the titles of Woman of the Year from 1985 to 1986 and Mother of the Year in 2012.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, two daughters, Eugenia Wheeler of Glenn Dale, MD and Minerva Smith of Whitsett, NC; four grandchildren, Clinton, Jr., Vanessa, Monica (Mark) and Laurie; four great-grandchildren, Deontrae, Danius, Armani, Kaila; four great great-grandchildren, Aniya, Londyn, Jaylen and Jeremiah; one great-great-great grandchild, Cameran as well as several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.
