IMOGENE MOORE

June 10, 1950 — January 8, 2025

Greensboro

On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Imogene Moore, a cherished mother, beloved aunt, and steadfast friend, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest at the age of 74, surrounded by her devoted family. Known affectionately by many names, including “Emma,” “Gene,” “Ma,” “Mama,” and “Aunt Gene Gene,” Imogene touched countless lives with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit. She was not only a mother to her own children but also to many nieces and nephews, and a dear friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born on June 10, 1950, in Heath Springs, South Carolina, Imogene was the beloved daughter of the late Richard Jay Moore and Mattie Lee Moore. She was raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she attended Guilford County Schools and graduated from the esteemed James B. Dudley High School. Imogene was deeply loved by her classmates and was known for her vibrant personality and generous heart.

Imogene embarked on a fulfilling career as a telephone operator with Southern Bell, which eventually led her to work with prominent companies such as AT&T, Lucent Technologies, and General Dynamics. Committed to personal growth and professional excellence, she pursued further education at Kings Business College, where she honed her business skills, and later studied sociology at Greensboro College for three years, demonstrating her insatiable love of learning.

Imogene found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid gardener who took pride in planting flowers and maintaining her yard. She loved staying active, whether through exercise, bowling, or dancing to her own rhythm. Reading, traveling, and singing—often creating her own tunes—brought her happiness. Her love for life and infectious laugh brightened every room she entered.

For over 50 years, Imogene was a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, where she served with grace and dedication. She shared her talents as an exercise instructor and a Vacation Bible School teacher, fostering fellowship and fun among fellow members.

Imogene was preceded in death by her loving parents, Richard Jay and Mattie Lee Moore, as well as her nieces Latasha Moore, Valerie Deloatch, and Jasmine Deloatch.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Left to honor her life are her two sons, Travis Moore (Natalya) of High Point, NC, and Trevor Moore (Kendra) of Kernersville, NC; her brothers Larry Jones (Regina) and David Moore (Sonie); her sisters Brenda Moore, Elaine Porter (Keith), Angie Moore, and Crystal Long (Aaron); seven beloved grandchildren: Brandon Cureton, Brianna Winston, Kayla Winston, Trevor Moore Jr., Zoey Moore, Zion Moore, and Kennedy Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and treasured friends.
